Home Tour - Kitchen & Bathroom

Friday, 28 March 2014

Last up in my home tour is our kitchen and bathroom, not generally the most exciting rooms of a rented house cos you've just gotta deal with whats already there. As we’re renting the kitchen is the least customisable room of our place but thankfully Ikea have a great kitchen accessories range, I’m fond of the LĂ„MPLIG chopping board because I’d love to have wooden counters one day so its a good compromise for now and it also means it keeps the counter safe from scratches! I like to have all my utensils ready to hand rather than away in drawers so the GRUNDTAL magnetic knife rack is great. I've got my magnet collection on our fridge to remind me of all the great places we've been together, and I stuck the remaining heart decals from our bedroom on there too. The bathroom is at the back of the house and is absolutely freezing, I'm so gutted cos I can't have baths as its just too cold, that's the price you pay for living in a victorian terrace though, the bathrooms are often extensions. The Fullen bathroom cabinet stores all of our toiletries out of the way and displays some of the prettier bottles of lotions and potions I somehow collect, its slim design fit perfectly in the space we had behind the door and keeps everything organised.

Home Tour - Living Room.

Thursday, 27 March 2014

Next up in my home tour is the living room. The best thing about this room is the fireplace, you have no idea how long I have yearned for a fireplace and mantle. I think there's something so cosy about having a fire as the focus of the room, with the mantle to display loads of cute knick-knacks. The M&P wooden letters were from a craft shop in Hexham but I know you can get them online in lots of places. The heart union jack bunting was from Sainsburys a few years ago. And all the cat themed things were gifts or from charity shops. I like to switch up the display every now and again, and I'm thinking of doing themed displays for events of the month! February was valentines themed and I had a rose garland and the ceramic hearts you can see on the Expedit.

Our 'media centre' as I like to call it is in the corner of the room out of sight. I don't like having a television as the focus of the room, they're ugly bits of technology in my opinion. I do like the record player area I cobbled from a single Expedit shelf and some legs, they're the perfect size for vinyl. I've finally been able to realise my dream of having a corner sofa as well. Its so nice to be able to cuddle up on it, light candles and watch Netflix together. The corner unit was a gift from my mam, its so cute and the best thing is that I can switch up the fabric when I get bored. As we haven't got a dining room we had to find a table small enough to fit into the living room. This extendable one from Ikea was the perfect size. The wall unit with little knick-knacks in is from B&M, I love that place for furniture and home-wares.

Lindybop 'Holly'

Wednesday, 26 March 2014

A few weekends ago me and my family got to don our glad rags for the wedding of my cousin and her partner. Held at a super posh stately home in Northumberland I worried for months what I was going to wear. An almost last minute decision had me searching the Lindy Bop website for a dress that was glamorous but practical. Its still winter here after all and we were going to spending time outside so I wanted something that would keep me warm. Red is definitely my colour so when I laid eyes on the Holly dress with 3/4 sleeves I knew that was the one. Because Lindy Bop only go up to a UK22 I had to trust that it would be true to size. It fit where it touched and I  might have been better off with a 24 but I worked it anyway. I added a red petticoat, tights and some comfy t-bar heels from Simply Be. The miracles worked with my hair and make-up sadly weren't done by myself, but the talented MUA Maximillion Makeup & Hair. If you're local to the North-East check her out, she did exactly what I wanted and more, I just wish I had her here everyday!

Outfit Details:
Dress - Lindybop UK22
Shoes - Simply Be

Home Tour - Office.

Next up in my home tour is the room where I spend most of my time and what I call 'my bedroom.' Its so great to have a spare room, we've lived in one bedroom flats for the past few years. Now we're older and starting to think about 'settling down' I wanted somewhere for guests to stay. The room is small but it fits a 3/4 bed and my Micke desk from, you guessed it, Ikea. I did a post about my work space a few months back when I still lived at my nana's. Its still the same set up but I have a few more knick-knacks, plus the wall behind it is great for using as vertical space. I've also broken up the expanse of cream by putting up the Urban Walls gold polka dot decals, they may only be small but they instantly changed the room. My favourite thing in the room is the Leeds print I commissioned from Becky's talented partner Clumsy Pickle. I want a few more pieces like it to remind me of the city I called home for 8 years.

There's also a few photos of the hallway in this post. Its not an exciting room for most but we've lived in tiny little flats with front doors straight into the living space for the past 5 years. Its made me appreciate having a hallway as the entrance to our home (plus it keeps the heat in!). I've made a gallery space with frames from Ikea containing Instagram prints. And you can just make out the frame containing keys from our past homes, I need to update it with one from here. Its quite a simple craft but I'll make a post about it at some point.

Home Tour - Bedroom

Tuesday, 25 March 2014

So this post is a long time coming. I've been wanting to show off our beautiful new flat ever since we moved back in December. Seeing as I'm queen procrastinator I've only got round to digging out my camera this morning. I figured as I'd just done a bit of a spring clean, and it was all tidy, now was definitely the best time to get snapping. I took so many photos I thought I'd split the tour up into a few posts rather than dump them all in one.

First up is my favourite room of the house, our bedroom. Its the biggest room of the house, measuring in at about 17m squared, so there is a TONNE of space. With the front having wall to floor bay-windows it gets a load of light. Its the ultimate femme bedroom of my dreams. The Ikea Liervik bed frame takes pride of place as main feature of the room. The wall behind it was looking bare so thanks to some pretty little heart wall decals from Urban Walls its now super eye-catching. I've also got some of their polka-dot decals up in my study which I'll show you tomorrow.

After living with a clothes rail in our previous place, I've grown to love having my clothes out on display. It means I can see everything I've got. And as you can tell I have rather an extensive collection of clothing, the rails are absolute full to bursting. I've always dreamt of having enough room for a proper dressing area with a big mirror. Thanks to my bargain buy from Mirror Outlet I've finally been able to realise that. They're factory seconds so can have minor faults but I can't tell whats supposed to be wrong with mine! Its my favourite bit of furniture ever and I'm so in love with it.

I worried at first that having such a large bedroom would feel bare. But I reckon I've got enough furniture in there to fill it up! When we switch on the fairy lights and get into bed under all the the blankets its definitely cosy.  My beautiful Cath Kidston eiderdown was purchased at TK Maxx for 75% off just before Christmas.

There's still some things on the to-do list: painting the bedside cabinets and a 2x3 cabinet reminiscent of the Ikea Expedit, both hand-me-downs from my Auntie. They'll be white to match the rest of the room whenever I get the motivation to get my paint brush out!

If you wanna know where anything else in the room is from let me know in the comments, most of my junk is acquired over time so I might not remember!
